After years of starts and stops, Sicario 3 just took a major step forward.
Though being planned as far back as 2018, attempts to get a third Sicario movie off the ground have been marred by everything from scheduling conflicts to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. The film properly started gaining steam in mid-2025 when original star Josh Brolin confirmed the threequel was not only alive and was "very, very real" in how much progress it had made, while confirming to ScreenRant in August 2026 that production was expected to begin very soon.
Now, as reported by Deadline, Black Label Media and Thunder Road are reuniting and pushing ahead with the third installment in Taylor Sheridan's Sicario franchise. Sources report that Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin are all in talks to reprise their roles for the new film, while The Weight's Padraic McKinley is set to direct the threequel on a script from Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight, making it the first not to be written by Sheridan.
