Vadivelu explains why he built a home reportedly worth Rs 100 crore in Madurai: 'There are around 200 people in our family; I am the only one they have'

Tamil comedy star Vadivelu, who is making the most of his second innings in cinema, has explained why he built a grand new house in Madurai, a property reportedly valued at around Rs 100 crore.

The actor says the home is less about comfort or luxury and more about giving his large extended family a place to come together, share meals and spend time with one another.

Vadivelu reveals why he built a grand house in Madurai

Vadivelu spoke about his family and the new house in a recent interview with Galatta. The Rs 100 crore figure comes from reports that followed a video of the house that recently drew public attention, and it is an estimate rather than a number confirmed by the actor.

Known for keeping his family life away from the public eye, Vadivelu said around 200 people belong to his extended family and that he feels responsible for all of them.

He added that the family regularly gathers for celebrations and meals.Explaining the idea behind the property, Vadivelu said, “There are around 200 people in our family. I am the only one they have. God has placed me in a position where I can take care of them and keep them happy.

We call everyone over every week, hold a function, and serve them food. Everyone spends time together happily and then leaves. I built this house now so that I can relax.”

Vadivelu’s family bond takes centre stage amid new house buzz

The video of the house suggested a property of considerable size, but Vadivelu’s comments point to a more personal purpose. The actor, who divides his time between Chennai and Madurai, appears to have created a space where his family can gather regularly.

Despite a long career in the entertainment industry, he has generally kept his family members away from the public spotlight, choosing to protect their privacy.

Vadivelu returns to the spotlight with upcoming films

Vadivelu continues to explore different roles after returning to the big screen following a difficult phase in his career. His performances in ‘Maamannan’ and ‘Mareesan’ got noticed, giving audiences a chance to see him in roles beyond his usual comic persona. He is now working on ‘Bang Bang’ with Prabhu Deva and on Dhanush’s upcoming film, tentatively titled ‘D56’, directed by Tamilarasan Pachamuthu of ‘Lubber Pandhu’ fame. While balancing his film career with his family life, Vadivelu’s latest statement offers a glimpse of the values that guide him off screen.
