MCMC submits cases related to WhatsApp accounts to Meta

Translate

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is looking into public complaints regarding WhatsApp accounts that have reportedly been compromised, blocked or rendered inaccessible.

In a statement, MCMC said it had referred the matter to Meta for clarification and appropriate action.

“MCMC will continue to monitor the situation and seek cooperation from the platform to protect user interests.

“Affected users are advised to use official WhatsApp channels for account recovery or verification.”

MCMC also said that compromised and blocked accounts are two distinct issues.

It said accounts compromised by irresponsible parties could be misused for fraud, spam or activities that violate WhatsApp’s terms, causing the accounts to be blocked by the platform.

MCMC also advised the public not to share verification codes or security PINs, to activate the “two-step verification” feature, and to avoid suspicious links or applications.

It reminded the public to be wary of parties offering account recovery services that request money, personal information or verification codes.

“If the issue cannot be resolved through official WhatsApp channels, users may submit a complaint to MCMC for further action and for the case to be referred to Meta,” it added.
