Baylor prepares for 122nd meeting with TCU after four game winning streak

WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — Baylor football is preparing for one of its biggest rivalry games of the season as TCU heads to Waco this weekend for the 122nd meeting between the programs.

The Bears are looking for revenge after falling to the Horned Frogs 42-36 in Fort Worth last season. Baylor enters this year's matchup on a four game winning streak, including a 55-19 victory over Arizona State last week.

Baylor's defense has been a major factor in the team's early success. Under defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman, the Bears have held all five opponents to 20 points or fewer to open the season, a stretch the program has not accomplished since 1966.

Following a bye week, Baylor coach Dave Aranda said the team focused on maintaining its energy and momentum through practices and meetings.

"I think I probably would have liked to continue playing, you know, with that not being an option, right? How do we create momentum during the bye week?" Aranda said.

Aranda said players emphasized energy in practice and meetings, along with one-on-one work and competition against their teammates.

The coaching staff also focused on identifying what helped the team play with energy and passion, particularly along the right side of the offensive line.

Baylor will look to carry that intensity into Saturday's rivalry matchup as it tries to extend its winning streak and earn a measure of revenge against TCU.

The football rivalry is part of a busy week for both schools, with Baylor volleyball traveling to Fort Worth on Sunday for a 2p.m. match and TCU visiting Waco for soccer on Friday at 7 p.m.
