Eldrew Yulo continues to prove boundless potential with Asian Games bronze

MANILA, Philippines – Winning is a family affair for Eldrew and Carlos Yulo.

After his older brother Carlos captured back-to-back artistic gymnastics golds in floor exercise and vault, Eldrew also shone in the 2026 Asian Games as he bagged the bronze in horizontal bar at the Nagoya General Gymnasium in Japan on Friday, September 25.

The younger Yulo completed the podium after a tiebreaker with Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi, scoring 13.666 points to conclude his first Asian Games stint in style.

Yulo and Karimi posted similar scores, but the Filipino clinched the bronze with a higher execution of 8.566 against the 7.766 of the veteran Kazakh, who is a former Asian champion in the apparatus.

Tian Hao won convincingly with 14.7 points as he secured another gold medal for China, which dominated the competition and ruled five of the eight events in men’s artistic gymnastics.

Japan’s Shinnosuke Oka settled for silver anew with 14.033 points — the gold once again eluding him following runner-up finishes in the team, individual all-around, and parallel bars.

The Asian Games medal is yet another testament to the boundless potential of Yulo, who just turned 18 in January and is competing in his first year as a senior gymnast. 

And his rookie year has been fruitful. 

Yulo won gold and bronze medals in floor exercise and a bronze in horizontal bar in the FIG World Cup Series as well as a floor exercise bronze in the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in China in June.
