MELAKA, Oct 9 — All schools under the Education Ministry in Melaka will be closed today, the Melaka Education Department said.

The department said the decision was taken following monitoring and the Environmental Department’s official report showing the Air Pollution Index readings in major areas in Melaka had exceeded 150 and were at unhealthy levels.

“The closure is to ensure the health, safety and welfare of students, teachers and school staff. The Melaka education department and district education offices in Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah districts will continue to monitor the haze according to guidelines set by the Education Ministry,” the department said in a statement yesterday.

The latest information or changes related to schooling sessions will be announced periodically through official channels, it added. — Bernama
