Everyone by now probably knows a Stardew Valley 1.7 update is coming. Other than that, details have been pretty scarce, as creator ConcernedApe hasn't given fans much to grasp. At least, not yet. A few Stardew Valley 1.7 plans were shared earlier this year, including a desire to have more interactions between married couples and revised festivals. ConcernedApe also made it clear back then that the new Haunted Chocolatier game was the main focus for now.
Now, it looks like we all have a few more details to sink our teeth into when it comes to the 1.7 update. For now, ConcernedApe has only shared a few teases, leading to a lot of speculation in the Stardew Valley community. The update was shared in the SDV Discord before making the rounds on Reddit and other social media platforms.
According to ConceredApe, Stardew Valley 1.7 will contain the following:
- Two paths will be extended
- Three will become four
- The mermaid's fruit will go free
Understandably, those few words have led to a ton of speculation from Stardew Valley fans. Most people seem to agree the "two paths will be extended" refers to new marriage candidates, which makes sense. We've previously gotten confirmation that Clint and Sandy would be marriage candidates when the 1.7 update arrives.
Others speculate the "two paths" refer to locations, likely JojaMart and the Community Center. Quite a few comments skew toward this theory over on Reddit. As with the marriage candidates, this one also makes sense. Basically, the details are just vague enough that they could be almost anything.
As for the next part, one comment on Reddit guesses "A new kid in town? We got Vincent, Jas, and Leo." Most folks seem to be in agreement there. Although, admittedly, none of this is officially confirmed, so we'll have to wait and see if this is the correct interpretation or not.
Then there's the final part: "The mermaid's fruit will go free." There's at least one good theory about this as well. "100% refers to the farmer's kid," writes a user called Odasto on Reddit. "CA has already gone on the record saying that he wants to make the children mechanic 'more interesting.' It's also one of the most criticized parts of the game."
"Having a kid is 'fruit of the mermaid's tree.' You NEED to marry someone with the Mermaid's pendant to have a kid," Odasto continues. "The fruit will go free? The kid will age up enough to eventually leave the farmhouse, ideally as an interactable NPC."
That's actually a pretty good assessment. Until ConcernedApe officially confirms any of this, fans will likely continue debating. Hopefully, some other key details related to Stardew Valley 1.7 will be unveiled in the near future.
