Kruger National Park security intercepts 40kg of cannabis at gate

Security guards at the Kruger National Park’s Malelane Gate intercepted approximately 40kg of suspected cannabis during a security operation last weekend.
According to South African National Parks (SANParks), the suspected dagga was discovered in a vehicle belonging to a park concessionaire during ongoing access-control procedures.
The discovery was made as part of security measures aimed at safeguarding the park and ensuring that people and vehicles entering and leaving the protected area comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Suspected cannabis confiscated
SANParks said the suspected cannabis was confiscated after it was discovered at the Malelane Gate.
The matter was then immediately handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation and processing.
SANParks said it is cooperating fully with police as the investigation continues.
The organisation has not disclosed any further details about the vehicle, the concessionaire or whether any arrests have been made.
SANParks adopts zero-tolerance approach
SANParks said it maintains a zero-tolerance approach to unlawful activities within its national parks and associated operations.
The organisation added that it remains committed to supporting law-enforcement efforts aimed at combating criminal activity.
The incident comes amid ongoing security and access-control measures at the Kruger National Park.
The Kruger is one of South Africa’s flagship national parks and covers almost 2 million hectares, with visitors accessing the park through a number of entrance gates, including Malelane.
SANParks said the matter is now under investigation by SAPS and that it will not comment further at this stage.
No information about possible charges or court proceedings has been released.
