Chessum signs new two-year deal with Leicester

Leicester Tigers captain Ollie Chessum has signed a new multi-year deal to stay at Welford Road.

The 26-year-old has made 88 appearances since graduating from the Tigers academy and was named club captain ahead of the 2025/26 season. He was also part of the side that won the 2022 Premiership title.

The new deal comes less than a week after fellow England international Jack van Poortvliet committed his future to Leicester.

Leicester head coach Geoff Parling said: "Those young lads who have come through the academy have been developed here; they are hungry for the team to do well.

"The fans can identify themselves in them because they see a local player playing, which is really important, and they are quality players as well.

"Ollie has really developed as a captain; he's really pushing on, he's a great driver of what we do, and he's well supported from other players.

"I'd heard some good stuff about him before I arrived here but wanted to make my own mind up.

"In the first few weeks around training, I could see how he was and his desire to get better, which actually aligned with some of my bits of thinking and how we perform and how we train, which was really important.

"He's got some characteristics that I really wanted in a skipper."
