King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Score First-Ever Hot 100 Spot Thanks to GTA VI

Translate

After 28 studio albums, countless genre experiments, and more than 15 years together, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have finally landed a song on the Billboard Hot 100. The Australian psych-rockers make their chart debut at No. 62 with “Flower in a Hurricane,” a collaboration with Justice, Tame Impala, and SZA featured in the launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI.

According to Billboard, the track racked up 4.6 million US streams, 1 million radio audience impressions, and 1,000 sales during the October 16th–22nd tracking period. Released on October 15th, “Flower in a Hurricane” is one of 34 songs set to appear on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, arriving alongside the game on November 19th. It also marks the third song from the soundtrack to reach the Hot 100, following Morgan Wallen’s “Last Thing You Need” and Travis Scott’s “Rhyno.” Check out our ongoing list of every song featured in GTA VI.

For King Gizzard, whose vast catalog has bounced between psychedelic rock, thrash metal, jazz fusion, and electronic music, the milestone arrives in an especially fitting year. The band pushed further into dance music with August’s Alien Metal, while “Flower in a Hurricane” also gave them their first appearance on Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay chart, debuting at No. 39. Not bad for a squad that spent much of their career making music decidedly outside the mainstream.
