CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda died at 30 on Tuesday, November 3, the club confirmed, a day after he collided with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono in stoppage time of a Spanish second-division match in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The game was abandoned and De Miguel was taken to hospital.

Collision, Hospital And Club Announcement

In stoppage time at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, De Miguel chased a long ball forward, and Owono rushed off his line to meet it, colliding with him near the centre circle with the score at 2-2. De Miguel was struck in the chest, according to match reports. The referee showed the goalkeeper a straight red card and abandoned the match in the 108th minute.

Tenerife first said he was stable despite the severity of his condition, then reported that it had worsened neurologically. He died at 8am on Tuesday. The club said it was heartbroken and had no words of comfort. It has not published a formal cause of death.

Spanish police have opened an investigation into the death. Catalan outlet Món Esport reported that the National Police's homicide group is running it and examining the collision and the medical response. FC Andorra sent condolences to De Miguel's family and the Tenerife community.

De Miguel, who was born in Madrid, began his senior career at Leganés B in 2015 and played for eight other Spanish clubs, among them Fuenlabrada, Unionistas de Salamanca and Castellón, before joining Tenerife in July 2025.

Reaction From Clubs, Federation And UEFA

Real Madrid, Barcelona, LaLiga and former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué were among those who paid tribute. Castellón, one of De Miguel's former clubs, said it bid farewell with a broken heart, and teams across Spain posted messages of sympathy.

Tenerife president Felipe Miñambres said the club will need professional psychological support and the backing of its fans as players and staff deal with the loss.

UEFA has announced a moment of silence before European matches this week. The Spanish Football Federation suspended its competitions until November 6, affecting King's Cup and Queen's Cup matches scheduled for November 3, 4 and 5.
