Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto described the state visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Indonesia as an important milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries, which was agreed upon in April 2025.

“Through intensive and productive discussions, Your Excellency's visit this time marks an important milestone in strengthening our partnership,” Prabowo said in a joint statement with El-Sisi at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday.

Prabowo said El-Sisi's agenda was a reciprocal visit following his state visits to Egypt in 2024 and 2025.

During Prabowo's visit to Egypt last year, he said the two leaders had agreed to elevate Indonesia-Egypt relations to a strategic partnership.

Prabowo said efforts to strengthen the partnership should be translated into concrete cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to the people of both countries.

During Sunday's meeting, the two leaders discussed various issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

Several cooperation agreements were reached during the visit, covering maritime affairs and fisheries, investment, the defense industry, education, trade and the economy, as well as an action plan for the strategic partnership.

In the economic sector, Indonesia and Egypt are promoting the establishment of an economic partnership agreement to create opportunities for market access, investment, and greater business engagement between the two countries.

Prabowo also welcomed an initiative to establish a joint investment fund involving investment institutions from Indonesia and Egypt to promote investment in strategic projects.

In maritime affairs and fisheries, the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in maritime affairs and fisheries, focusing on sustainable development, marine resource conservation, combating illegal fishing, and exchanges of knowledge and expertise.

Indonesia and Egypt also seek to expand educational cooperation through student exchanges, joint research, and stronger ties between educational institutions.

Prabowo welcomed Egypt's offer to increase scholarships for Indonesian students, particularly in medicine, engineering, and science.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues, including Palestine and conflicts in the Middle East.

Prabowo reaffirmed that Indonesia and Egypt support the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and efforts to achieve peace through a two-state solution.

Both countries also committed to continuing humanitarian assistance, including support for the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza.

Regarding conflicts in the Middle East, Prabowo expressed concern over escalating tensions that threaten civilian safety and global stability.
