‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ song ‘Ghoom Ghoom’ has emerged as one of the popular tracks from the film, and choreographer Vijay Ganguly has now revealed that Ravi Kishan had already spotted its potential before the song was filmed. According to Ganguly, Kishan wanted the track to create the same kind of impact as Akshaye Khanna’s ‘FA9LA’ from ‘Dhurandhar’, while director Gurmmeet Singh wanted the number to retain the feel of the iconic ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ from ‘Sholay’.

‘Ghoom Ghoom’ from ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ has been drawing attention since the film’s release. However, choreographer Vijay Ganguly revealed in an interview with Mid-Day that Ravi Kishan had high expectations from the dance number even before it was shot.According to Ganguly, the timing was significant as Akshaye Khanna’s ‘FA9LA’ from ‘Dhurandhar’ had recently become a major hit. Kishan, who joined the ‘Mirzapur’ franchise with the film, encouraged Ganguly to create something equally memorable for the new track.Ganguly told Mid-Day, “When we were doing Ghoom Ghoom, Akshaye’s song had just been released and became a huge hit. Ravi sir told me that I had done a fantastic job in Dhurandhar and that we had an opportunity to do something like that in Mirzapur. He said, ‘Let’s create some magical stuff’. He made the steps trend so much that he made the track popular, instead of the other way around.”

‘Ghoom Ghoom’ had to capture the feel of ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’

While the team wanted the song to have a contemporary, high-energy appeal, Ganguly revealed that the creative brief also drew from the classic ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ from Ramesh Sippy’s ‘Sholay’.

The song was filmed in Jaisalmer, with the desert landscape providing the backdrop. However, shooting in Rajasthan came with its own challenges, particularly because the team had to work in extremely cold conditions.Ganguly explained, “It had to have a Mehbooba Mehbooba [from Sholay] feel. I suggested shooting it in Mumbai, but Gurmmeet was keen to shoot it in a real location in Rajasthan.”The decision to shoot on location ultimately gave the song the expansive desert setting that became a key visual element of the sequence.

Filming the large-scale dance number in Jaisalmer’s bitter cold required the cast and crew to work through challenging conditions. Despite the difficulties, the team went ahead with the Rajasthan shoot to preserve the atmosphere envisioned by director Gurmmeet Singh.

The combination of the desert setting, energetic choreography and the presence of several key cast members has helped ‘Ghoom Ghoom’ stand out as one of the film’s much-discussed musical sequences.
