Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani said Asset Forfeiture Related to Criminal Acts Bill is targeted to be completed no later than December 15, 2026.

"Insyaallah, it will be decided by December 15 at the latest," Maharani said at a press conference after the 9th Plenary Session for Session Period I of the 2026-2027 Legislative Year here on Tuesday.

She delivered the statement after the plenary session approved the bill as a the House-proposed bill. Once designated as the House-proposed bill, it will be deliberated by Commission III together with the government.

The Commission III Chair Habiburokhman said his side will soon discuss the problem inventory list of the bill during the next session period starting November 10, 2026.

"We can reiterate and ensure that we will have an Asset Forfeiture Law at the latest on December 15, 2026," Habiburokhman said in a written statement.

He then explained since September 2025, the Commission III has drafted the bill and its academic paper with public participation.

According to Habiburokhman, the Commission III has held at least 62 public hearings, eight working visits, dozens of constituency visits, and received hundreds of written aspirations from the public.

"From this series of activities, we got the picture that most people support passing the bill and want this law not to become a tool of power against political opponents or a tool for law enforcers to carry out extortion," he said.

Habiburokhman said the Commission III will maximise deliberation on the mechanisms, procedures, and substance of asset forfeiture related to criminal acts.

In addition, he said, oversight of the law's implementation will also be a concern so that asset forfeiture authority is not misused.
