Obocchama-kun Manga Gets New Anime in 2027
TV Asahi announced on Thursday that Yoshinori Kobayashi's Obocchama-kun manga is getting a new television anime titled Obocchama-kun Reborn in 2027. The company unveiled a teaser promotional video and visual:

Chie Kōjiro is reprising the role of the protagonist Obocchama-kun from the original 1989 anime.
Green Gold Animation is producing the new anime with cooperation from Shinei Animation and Sony Pictures Networks India, who worked on the 2025 India-produced anime. The new anime is a joint production between Japan and India. The new anime will feature stories that were not adapted from the original manga, as well as new stories supervised by series creator Kobayashi.
The Obocchama-kun anime's YouTube channel describes the original 1989 series:
The extremely crude Obocchama(Obo Cchama / 'Obocchama-Kun') is the heir of the wealthy Obo family and a new student at the elite Denenchofu Academy. The show is an upper-class comedy anime revolving around Cchama's eccentric elementary school classmates: Kakino Shuhei, the first friend Cchama makes without the help of money; Ojo Samayo, Cchama's fiancee whose family runs the Ojo Company; Fukurokoji Kanemitsu whose family are nearly as rich as the Obos; and the proud Binbo Taijo('Binbocchama') whose family used to be well-off.
The original 164-episode anime adaptation of Kobayashi's Obocchama-kun manga aired in Japan from 1989 to 1992. It aired on a children's channel in India, and was also dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
TV Asahi announced in September 2024 a new anime adaptation of the manga, targeted for the Indian market, and it launched in 2025.
The anime project was carried out together with Sony Pictures Networks India, Sony Group's local subsidiary. Under the supervision of Kobayashi, Shinei Animation produced the scenario, and the animation production was done in India. The series had 26 episodes, and was targeted at children 6-11 years old. The series aired on the Sony YAY! channel.
Kobayashi's manga serialized in Shogakukan's CoroCoro Comic magazine from 1986 to 1994. Shogakukan published 24 compiled book volumes of the manga.
