Marvel releases the first official glimpse at the plot of its 2027 Star Wars crossover. After half a century of exclusivity, Star Wars is finally launching its first-ever official franchise crossover to celebrate the franchise's fiftieth anniversary. The six-issue limited series Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles is scheduled for release in January 2027, penned by filmmaker Kevin Smith with striking artwork by David Marquez. While Marvel has published standalone Star Wars comic books since 1977, the characters themselves have never shared the same space.

Promoted by breathtaking variant artwork unveiled at New York Comic Con 2026, Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles promises dozens of unprecedented character interactions that die-hard fans of both franchises have only ever dreamed of. Team-ups like Spider-Man and Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Doctor Doom, Groot and Chewbacca, and possibly Professor X and Obi-Wan Kenobi are almost guaranteed, though there are also countless opportunities for strange encounters between unexpected characters. Battles involving lightsabers, web-shooters, blasters, and the Infinity Gauntlet have never graced the comic book pages before.

Besides David Marquez's five-part connecting covers and Alex Ross' variant cover featuring Luke Skywalker fighting alongside Spider-Man, Marvel Comics is providing a first look at the first battle between Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Galactic Empire.

Captain America Faces A Star Destroyer In Star Wars & Marvel's Upcoming Crossover

Captain America covers himself from a Star Destroyer attack in Star Wars Marvel Hope Assembles #1

Marvel has teased the highly anticipated Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles crossover with the release of multiple promotional images, but as the event approaches, the two universes' collision reveals a first official look at the story. In a single splash page, a Star Destroyer attacks a major Earth city, while Captain America, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Hulk, and Vision protect civilians on the ground. Multiple Skrulls run for their lives, and the Tantive IV helps resist the attack.

Each Marvel hero defends civilians in their own unique way. The Thing and Hulk use their nearly indestructible bodies to shield a group of people, Spider-Man scoops up a child using his super-agility and spider-webs, the Invisible Woman summons an energy field, and Captain America uses nothing but his shield to protect a little kid. The perspective of the artwork helps put the incredible size of the Star Destroyer into perspective, though the reason why the ship is focusing its firepower on such a small area is a mystery that will only be revealed once Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles is released.
