These are the UK seaside spots with the most expensive ice creams - where one scoop costs almost £4

Do you prefer a double scoop or a single scoop? Sprinkles and sauce or just a flake? They're all important things to consider when ordering an ice cream, as well as the price. 

A trip to the coast can already be costly without taking into account the sticky sweet treat – with fish and chips, parking and other snacks along the way. 

New research by credit card company Zable has revealed the priciest seaside spots in the UK for ice cream, looking across 33 different coastal destinations.

The most expensive place for the delicious frozen dessert can be found in North Wales. Other spots with sky-high prices are located in the south-east of England and the north-west.

Be sure to pack some extra cash for your next trip to the coast – here are the most expensive destinations for an ice cream in the UK. 

1. Porthmadog, North Wales

Porthmadog in North Wales was named as the most expensive spot to buy ice cream in the UK

The characterful harbour town averages £3.85 for a single – the priciest out of all the spots analysed. 

A family of four could spend £15.40 in total, without any extras like toppings and flakes.  

If you treat yourself to a double you could find yourself set back £5.28 – soaring to £21.12 if everyone goes for the same. 

2. Brighton, East Sussex

Brighton, in East Sussex, ranked second with a double averaging £5.96

Known for its pebbled beaches, an ice cream in lively Brighton comes with a high price tag. 

A single scoop works out at around £3.71 and a double will set you back a whopping £5.96.

If the entire family decides to splurge on two scoops of creamy frozen goodness – that's £23.84.

3. New Brighton, Merseyside

New Brighton ranked third with a single scoop costing around £3.70

It might have a similar name to Brighton in East Sussex, but that's not the only commonality New Brighton shares. 

As the third-most expensive spot in the country, a single scoop of ice cream comes in at around £3.70.

Whereas a double averages £4.70 – at least it's less than a fiver this time round.  

4. Aberystwyth, Wales

Aberystwyth, in Wales, places fourth with a double costing around £5.05

Another Welsh spot to make the list, visitors to Aberystwyth might want to make sure they bring along some extra pennies for ice cream. 

A single scoop averages £3.65 a pop, while a double jumps to around £5.05.

If a family of four were to splash out on two scoops each, they'll have to cough up a whopping £20.20.

5. Bournemouth, Dorset

Bournemouth, in Dorset, charges an average of £5.22 for a double scoop

Over in Bournemouth there's sea, sand and some pricey ice creams along the shore. 

As the fifth most-expensive on the list, a single sticky scoop works out at around £3.57. 

Whereas a double can be a sickly sweet £5.22.

6. Salcombe, Devon

A single scoop of ice cream in Salcombe, Devon, can set you back £3.50

The coastal resort town of Salcombe has golden beaches aplenty, as well as some costly ice cream. 

A single scoop could set you back around £3.50, though could be more if you decide to splash out on sauce and sprinkles.

While two scoops averages £5.25 – a neat £21 for four.   

7. Whitstable, Kent

An ice cream in Whitstable, Kent, could cost £3.38 for a single scoop

In Kent, the seaside town of Whitstable has proven to be expensive too. 

Known for fresh oysters and coastal charm, a single scoop of dreamy ice cream can cost around £3.38.

Going for a double? That'll be £5 a pop – £20 if you're a family of four. 

8. Tenby in Wales and Padstow in Cornwall

Tenby and Padstow sit in joint eighth place, averaging £3.33 for just one scoop. 

A double in the Welsh and Cornish spots could set you back around £4.83 – you'll definitely want to pass on the sprinkles.

9. Margate, Hastings, Skegness 

While Margate, Hastings, Skegness rank ninth

Coming in joint ninth place are the seaside spots of Margate, Hastings and Skegness, located in Kent, East Sussex and Lincolnshire respectively.

In all three destinations, a single scoop of ice cream comes to £3.25.

While in Margate and Hastings a double averages £4.98. In Skegness two scoops of ice cream come to around £4.25.

10. St Ives, Cornwall

St Ives in Cornwall rounds off the top ten

Rounding off the top ten most expensive spots for an ice cream is St Ives, in Cornwall. 

The beautiful harbour town averages £3.23 for one scoop, while two could cost around £4.55.
