Netflix's new Yellowstone meets Taken movie officially releases next month.
The streaming service has confirmed the movie's upcoming release date, providing audiences with an expectation as to when the film arrives. Netflix is no stranger to Western original TV shows and movies, especially in recent years. From the high-octane, dark period piece that is American Primeval, to modern-day Texas familial drama in Ransom Canyon, the platform is devoted to telling stories from all walks of life, even in the same genre. Some are even mystery thrillers, like Untamed, never shying away from excitement and suspense.
This mystery thriller aspect is what defines a Western-inspired movie coming to Netflix next month: Heartland. Written and directed by Shana Feste (Run Sweetheart Run), Heartland follows Jessica Chastain as Misty Jones, a former country music star who's now on the hunt for her missing niece, famous singer Charlie Hart (Carter Faith). She dives into the underworld of Nashville, Tennessee in search of her, returning to the city after 20 years and finding herself embroiled in a high-stakes race-against-time to find and rescue her.
Now, Netflix has confirmed that Heartland will arrive on the platform on Friday, November 13, 2026. The soundtrack for the movie will also arrive on the same day, with original music already featured in the movie's trailer. It's another major November release for the platform, joining the likes of new TV shows, such as espionage thriller Black Doves season 2, and new movies, like the South Korean drama Possible Love. Heartland will be standing on its own upon release, being the only original film to arrive on the platform that weekend.
Question 1 of 3
In addition to Chastain and Faith, the movie also stars John Hawkes as Clark, Garrett Hedlund as Roy Combs, Jennifer Nettles as Winnie Jo Lean, and Ross Lynch as Jace. In addition, Ben Dickey, Isabelle Kusman, and Wynn Everett have been cast in undisclosed roles. The movie is rated R, specifically for "language, some violence, and brief sexual content." While the runtime for the movie hasn't been revealed as of writing, its release date is closing in, meaning there will likely be more information about its length in the coming weeks.
The movie offers a mixture between a Western-style setting like Yellowstone and the action thriller ideas of Taken. Much like the former, the movie's core focus is on family, with Misty's search for Charlie being influenced by her familial connection, despite initially being aloof to the idea. The more action-focused, mystery thriller elements begin to arise once her investigation unfolds, making her realize there's more going on than it seems at first glance.
All will be revealed once Heartland arrives on the platform, adding yet another Western to the streaming service's lineup. The movie's musical inclinations coupled with high levels of action mean it'll be one of the more unique recent releases on the platform. It goes to show that Netflix is putting its diversity of quality projects forward in ways that will attract a wide audience to the many elements on display.
