Senate holds brief session before adjournment

Nine bills and one resolution are expected to be approved on final reading by the Senate this afternoon as it briefly pauses the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte to conduct a legislative session before a month long adjournment.

Based on the legislative agenda shared by Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri to members of the media, the following measures are expected to be approved on third and final reading:

  • Proposed Senate Resolution No. 650 (Concurring in the ratification of the agreement between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the French Republic regarding the status of Visiting Forces)
  • Senate Bill No. 2424 (An Act safeguarding children from high-risk digital services, defining obligations and providing penalties for violations)
  • Senate Bill No. 2423 (An Act establishing a comprehensive, integrated, and sustainable reintegration program for Overseas Filipino Workers)
  • Senate Bill No. 1992 (An Act enhancing the capacity of government to implement socialized housing projects by improving and rationalizing land acquisition and utilization, amending for the purpose certain provisions of Republic Act No. 7279, or the Urban Development and Housing Act of 1992)
  • Senate Bill No. 2495 (An Act institutionalizing the Philippine Bamboo Industry Development Program)
  • Senate Bill No. 2484 (An Act honoring the unsung heroes of electrification by proclaiming the first Monday of August of every year as the National Line Workers Appreciation Day)
  • Senate Bill No. 2485 (An Act providing mandatory insurance coverage and other benefits for all line workers, and for other purposes)
  • Senate Bill No. 2503 (An Act institutionalizing a rental housing subsidy program, appropriating funds therefor, and for other purposes)
  • Senate Bill No. 2507 (An Act promoting access to affordable and decent rental housing for poor and low-income households through the provision of incentives for the development, construction, rehabilitation, and operation of qualified rental housing, and for other purposes)
  • Senate Bill No. 2508 (An Act emancipating qualified calamity survivors from financial burden by condoning outstanding housing obligations, including principal, unpaid amortizations, interest, and penalties, and providing for the exemption from estate tax of housing units awarded under calamity housing programs implemented by the National Housing Authority)

Zubiri said the upper chamber is also set to ratify two bicameral conference committee reports on the proposed Presidential Merit Scholarship Programs Act and the proposed Condominium Redevelopment Act.

The Senate is set to adjourn session from October 10 to November 8. —VAL, GMA News
