NSC demands accountability from new federation boards

Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade

The National Sports Commission has inaugurated the boards of four national federations and told the new members to put accountability at the heart of their work in developing sports in the nation.

The inauguration was held on Thursday in Abuja, where the Director General, Bukola Olopade, charged the new boards to treat their appointments as a call to service.

“These appointments come with a responsibility to serve diligently, uphold the highest standards of accountability and put the interests of our athletes and Nigerian sports first.

“We expect the new boards to work as a team, develop clear priorities and deliver measurable progress in their respective sports. Our goal is to build stronger federations that can nurture talent, compete successfully and contribute meaningfully to the growth of Nigerian sports,” Olopade said.

He added that effective administration is essential to identifying and nurturing talent, improving competitiveness and ensuring that Nigeria continues to make progress across different sports.

The boards inaugurated were those of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Nigeria Arm Wrestling Federation, Nigeria Padel Federation and Nigeria Fencing Federation.

Dr Mustapha Abdullahi is the new president of the basketball federation, with Rita Mosindi as secretary-general. Engr. Samuel Jackson leads arm wrestling, with Dorothy Benard as secretary-general. Rt. Hon. Jimi Benson heads padel, with Israel Inwang as secretary-general, while Adeyinka Samuel is president of fencing, with Javan Bernard as secretary-general.

The commission urged the boards to build on existing foundations, strengthen grassroots participation, improve athlete development and enhance Nigeria’s representation at regional, continental and global competitions.
