Former Kaizer Chiefs target leaves African giants

Mokwana, who Kaizer Chiefs were keen to sign before his move to Tunisia, has terminated his contract with Esperance after the two parties reached an amicable agreement.

The report states that the decision is linked to a registration dilemma at Espérance, with Mokwana now officially leaving the club, according to Lorenz Kohler.

ELIAS MOKWANA LEAVES ESPERANCE

Mokwana joined Espérance Sportive de Tunis in August 2024 after making a name for himself with Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership.

The winger had previously risen through the ranks with Platinum City Rovers, where his performances earned him a move to Sekhukhune United in 2022.

His move to Tunisia marked a major step in his career. Mokwana went on to make history by becoming the first South African player to win the Tunisian Ligue 1 title.

He also helped Espérance secure the Tunisian Cup and Tunisian Super Cup during his time at the club, while gaining valuable experience in the CAF Champions League.

WILL KAIZER CHIEFS POUNCE?

Mokwana spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Saudi Pro League club Al Hazem, where he gained further experience in another competitive league.

The 26 year old remains an important player for Bafana Bafana under Hugo Broos. His pace, dribbling ability and attacking threat have made him a regular option for the national team.

Mokwana’s departure from Espérance now leaves him facing an important decision over the next chapter of his club career.

With his international experience and previous success in Tunisia and Saudi Arabia, the winger is unlikely to remain without options for long.
