Rockstar Games has officially confirmed the open-world map size for Grand Theft Auto 6, and it’s essentially the revelation that players will spend a ton of time in the new game. Arguably the most anticipated title of the decade, GTA 6 is just a few weeks from arriving. The release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The PC version of the game has not yet been announced, and speculation leads to the understanding that it will only be released during the first quarter of 2027.
The game has never felt so real with only a few weeks to go, and before it drops in mid-November, Rockstar Games made a massive announcement. According to a new article by Insider Gaming, which reports on a piece published in Edge Magazine, the company has confirmed the map size for GTA 6. As seen in the report, the highly anticipated action-adventure game will have a map that is roughly twice the size of the map in GTA 5. In terms of landmass, players can expect something around the size of GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2.
There had already been a few discussions around the map size of GTA 6 a while ago, and Rockstar had mentioned the figure before. However, this information has now been confirmed once again, closer to launch, meaning that it’s likely definitive. As pointed out by the report, the thing with the upcoming title isn’t only the sheer size of the map, but the density it will offer players upon exploration. According to head of development Aaron Garbut, “you can go anywhere, any random location, and so many people have thought about that location.”
Based on what has been shown in the gameplay trailers for GTA 6, this seems to be true. While the trailers showcase what the company wants prospective customers to see, the world of Leonida does feel alive with tons of details and characters to interact with. So far, it seems very lively, and a playground for both Jason and Lucia to explore and turn into their own. The actual size of the map and how it compares to other Rockstar titles will be better understood once the game is released, however.
There’s no underselling how much anticipation revolves around this new game. Its predecessor, GTA 5, is believed to be the most profitable cultural product of all time, and the expectation is that GTA 6 could have massive gains for Rockstar Games – and this could very well have a huge impact on the economy itself. It’s unclear how the game will perform upon release, but expectations are high.
Luckily, we won’t have to wait much longer, as the game is less than a month away from arriving. Once the title is released on November 19 for consoles, we’ll have full access to the region of Leonida and all its immensity, according to Rockstar’s statement on the map size of Grand Theft Auto 6.
