Bali launches free electric bus service on Trans Sarbagita route

Translate

Denpasar (ANTARA) - The Bali Provincial Government launches a free electric bus public transport service on the Trans Sarbagita Corridor I route, effective Monday, November 9, 2026.

“Passengers can access the bus service for free during the trial period. However, passengers are still required to tap an e-money card so that the number of passengers can be tracked,” Head of the Bali Transportation Office I Kadek Mudarta said in Denpasar on Sunday.

He said the passengers who do not yet possess an electronic card can still use the service, as staff on board the buses will provide payment cards for passenger use.

The operation of these eco-friendly electric buses will be managed by the Denpasar branch of the state-owned transport company, Perum DAMRI, acting as the official operator under the supervision of the Bali Transportation Office.

Mudarta said the prospective passengers can board and alight at designated stops along the route.

The electric buses route will generally follow the existing Trans Sarbagita Corridor I route, connecting the Ngurah Rai Sports Hall (GOR Ngurah Rai) to the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park, with some minor adjustments.

He explained that, departing from GOR Ngurah Rai, the buses will travel along Jalan Melati, turn left onto Jalan Hayam Wuruk, and continue toward the Renon Roundabout.

The electric buses will pass through the government administrative district, traversing Jalan Raya Puputan and Jalan Sudirman, before merging onto the regular Trans Sarbagita route.

From GWK toward GOR Ngurah Rai, the buses will be diverted through the Renon area, passing along Jalan Cok Agung Tresna, Jalan Moh Yamin, Jalan Raya Puputan, Jalan Hayam Wuruk, Jalan Kamboja, Jalan Angsoka, and Jalan Melati, before concluding the journey on Jalan Pattimura.

Mudarta stated that the 11 electric buses owned by the Bali Provincial Government will undergo a full-scale trial; 10 buses will be in daily operation, while one will serve as a rotating reserve.

The operational trial period for this zero-emission fleet will be running until the end of 2026.

"We invite the public to try this electric bus service as a safe, comfortable, inclusive, affordable, and zero-emission mobility option," Mudarta said.

The Bali Transportation Office hopes that this eco-friendly public transport service will encourage the public to make public transit their primary mode of travel on the 'Island of the Gods.'

The procurement of this zero-emission public transport fleet was made possible through a grant from the South Korean government, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) as part of the 'Bali e-Mobility' project.

Before officially hitting the roads in Bali, the 11 electric buses were formally launched this past October in Denpasar.
