There’s something real fishy about Janelle Monáe‘s Halloween costume this year. At the star’s annual Wondaween celebration on Thursday (Oct. 29), she stepped out as “Phish Boy,” an original character with bugging eyes and hyperrealistic fins.

Monáe shared photos and a video of their getup on Friday (Oct. 30), giving followers an up-close look at the impressive transformation. The musician dressed up in a dapper striped vest and matching trousers with a red tie, letting special-effects makeup and prosthetic fins on her hands and face be the focal points.

“Introducing ‘PHISH BOY’ an original new creature,” Monáe wrote on Instagram. “Creature Carnival’s newest attraction! Happy Halloween Eve! … THANK YOU TO MY I n c r e d I b l e TEAM FOR HELPING ME BRING AN ORIGINAL CREATURE TO LIFE.”

The singer-actor — who’s had three Billboard Hot 100 entries, including six-week No. 1 hit fun. collaboration “We Are Young” — introduced Phish Boy at their Los Angeles festival Thursday night, which this year featured the theme “Creature Carnival.” Monáe previously got fans hyped for the event by morphing into a different creature in videos on Instagram, appearing as a decomposing green ghoul dubbed “Ghostess With the Mostess.”

At this year’s Wondaween, Monáe posed with attendees and enjoyed the night’s beverage and musical offerings while all decked out as Phish Boy. She’s one of numerous celebrities who’ve already gotten into the spirit ahead of Halloween on Saturday (Oct. 31), with Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Keke Palmer and more A-listers unveiling epic costumes on social media over the past few days.
