PN may go solo in Melaka if seat talks with BN fail

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional (PN), including Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan), may contest all seats in the Melaka election on its own.

Wawasan vice-president Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik said BN had yet to make an official decision on its choice of political partners.

"I think there is still an opportunity to join forces and form a cooperation between BN and PN.

"If BN refuses to work with us and wants to go solo, we will continue our collaboration with Pas, MPP and Gerakan. We will also contest on our own in Melaka, with all state seats to be contested," he told Utusan Malaysia.

Abdul Rahim, a former Melaka chief minister, said Wawasan was also prepared to contest the Bemban and Sungai Udang seats regardless of whether it reached an agreement with Umno.

The two seats, previously held by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), were now considered Wawasan's after the incumbents joined the party, he said.

Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan (PH) said last night that BN must clarify its position on possible cooperation in the election, as talks between the two sides have made no progress.

PH election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said PH had no issue if BN was not interested in working together but wanted a clear decision so it could proceed with preparations for the polls.
