BINI’s ‘A Parallel World’ gets 2 million streams ahead of ‘Forgotten Island’ release

BINI’s “A Parallel World,” featured in DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming film “Forgotten Island,” has surpassed 2 million streams on Spotify.

The Filipino girl group announced the milestone in a social media post on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

“We wrote our wish on the sand, and it came true! A Parallel World has hit 2 MILLION streams on @Spotify!” BINI wrote in part.

The milestone comes as anticipation builds for the film’s Philippine theatrical release on Sept. 23. Tickets are now on sale following the recent Manila homecoming of Filipino-American actress Liza Soberano, singer-songwriter H.E.R., and writer-directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado.

During their visit, the filmmakers and cast discussed the Filipino influences woven into “Forgotten Island,” including its mythical creatures, visual details, and themes of friendship, family and bayanihan.

Mercado, who is Filipino American, said the film was shaped by his and Crawford’s personal connections to the Philippines.

“We both have personal connections to the Philippines, so this movie is a love letter to our families and a culture that shaped our values,” Mercado said.

Crawford, who is married to a Filipina, said their approach to the film was rooted in their personal experiences.

“Not only did we set out to write what we know, but rather who we know,” Crawford said.

Crawford and Mercado previously worked together on animated films including “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and “The Croods: A New Age.”

Meanwhile, BINI returned to the Philippines on Monday after spending more than a month abroad for a packed schedule that included Comic-Con appearances and stops for their “Signals” world tour.
