Kate Cross, Fi Morris bid farewell with Lancashire win

Retiring duo Kate Cross and Fi Morris shared five wickets as Lancashire bowled Yorkshire out for 210 and won by seven wickets in today's season-ending Metro Bank One-Day Cup clash at Headingley.

White Rose captain Lauren Winfield-Hill opened with an excellent 90 to take her side to 179 for 4 in the 36th over, only for them to lose six wickets for 31.

Ex-England seamer Cross returned 2 for 54 from nine overs and the off-spin of all-rounder Morris 3 for 36 from 10. Morris was the pick of the Red Rose attack before watching opener Eve Jones underpin the chase with 77 off 97 balls.

Defending champions Lancashire, for whom Tilly Kesteven also finished with 47, and Tier 1 newbies Yorkshire were both out of knockout contention prior to this fixture, with the visitors winning for the eighth time in 16 games.

After Ellie Threlkeld elected to field, Winfield-Hill whipped and pulled sixes off Cross and two-wicket left-arm swing bowler Tara Norris.

Cross then bowled Rebecca Duckworth and Norris had Jess Jonassen caught behind driving as Yorkshire fell to 53 for 2 in the 15th over.

Winfield-Hill reached her fifty off 59, only for Sterre Kalis to be bowled for 21 by Fi Morris's off-spin with the score on 95 in the 22nd over. Sophie Morris's spin accounted for Erin Thomas .

Ami Campbell hoisted Cross for a huge six over midwicket shortly afterwards before taking a trio of boundaries off the seamer, only to then fall caught at long-on for 26 trying to play one shot too many as the score fell to 179 for 5 after 36. And that sparked a decisive turnaround.

Fi Morris bowled Sarah Glenn and had Beth Langston stumped. Sandwiched in between, Winfield-Hill spooned a return catch to Norris.

Sophie Morris also trapped Claudie Cooper lbw before Grace Potts wrapped things up by yorking Jess Woolston.

Yorkshire then needed early wickets but couldn't find them as left-hand, right-hand pair Jones and Gaby Lewis calmly advanced their side's cause to avenge an April defeat at Emirates Old Trafford.

Lewis was punishing on anything short on both sides of the wicket, while Jones pulled Langston over midwicket for six as the pair shared 83 inside 17 overs.

Lewis, on 25, was bowled by leg-spinner Glenn's second ball before Jones reached her fifth fifty of the campaign, added to a century, off 64 balls.

By this stage, it was difficult to see a Yorkshire fightback even though Cooper's off-spin bowled Jones to make it 132 for 2 in the 28th over.

After the game, Winfield-Hill presented Cross and Morris with bunch of red and white roses each in recognition of their careers.

But, with the focus somewhat on Lancashire's past, youngster Kesteven gave a glimpse into their future. The left-hander drove nicely before pulling Hannah Rainey's seam to midwicket in sight of victory.

Threlkeld finished 31 not out and hit the winning runs at the end of the 41st over.
