Missing in Coron ship fire down to 84 --PCG

The number of people being searched for after the MV June Aster ship fire in Coron, Palawan has been reduced to 84 from 86, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Friday.

PCG spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab said two individuals reported that their names appeared on the vessel's manifest but they did not actually board the ship.

Based on the latest update from the search and rescue (SAR) team, 43 people have been rescued while five others have died following the incident.

Cayabyab said thick smoke was still coming from the vessel, preventing rescuers from entering the ship.

The PCG has expanded its search operations with the assistance of its BRP Melchora Aquino to help locate the missing passengers and crew members. —VAL, GMA News
