Bulog releases 4,000 tons of daily rice to stabilize market prices

Jakarta (ANTARA) - State food procurement company Bulog distributes around 4,000 tons of rice daily across Indonesia under the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program to stabilize market prices.

Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said at the Cipinang Central Rice Market (PIBC) in East Jakarta on Friday that regular distribution ensures adequate market supplies and price stability.

"The government and private-sector players have all made every effort to provide rice to meet people's needs as optimally as possible," he said.

Ramdhani noted that maintaining food price stability requires coordination with private companies and rice mills, in addition to Bulog's distributions.

He added that the government needs to accelerate distribution so supplies reach consumers faster.

"It is true that rice is available in the market. What we need to do now is distribute it more quickly so that it actually reaches retailers and outlets in villages," he said.

Bulog is also preparing premium rice to meet consumer demand, distributing approximately 507 tons per day nationwide.

That volume accounts for roughly 10 percent of national premium rice demand, while private companies supply the remaining 90 percent, Ramdhani said.

Under a directive from the National Food Agency (Bapanas), maximum retail prices are set at Rp 12,500 (US$0.70) per kilogram for medium rice and Rp 14,900 (US$0.83) per kilogram for premium rice.

The government plans to strengthen its distribution network through Red and White Village Cooperatives, adding sales points for medium and premium rice.
