Sarah Jessica Parker and KIm Catttral gave ‘Sex And The City’ fans one of the most iconic friendships as Carrie Bradshaw and Samantha Jones. These two actresses spent over six seasons tackling love, heartbreaks, and whatnot.

However, not all that glitters is gold. Behind the scenes, things were very different between the two. While their characters were almost inseparable onscreen, rumors circulated that these two couldn’t rise above personal differences and salary disputes.

Over time, the relationship only got sour and reached its breaking point when Kim Cattrall refused to return for the third ‘Sex and the City’ movie. So, what really went so wrong between them?

How Did The Feud Between Sarah Jessica Parker And Kim Cattrall Start?

The earliest signs of the ‘Sex and the City’ feud emerged during the original run of the series. That is, between 1998 and 2004. While SJP climbed the career ladder and went on to become an executive producer during the show’s run, Kim Cattrall grew unhappy about the stark salary disparity.

Besides salary disputes, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon were already close friends from their Broadway days, so Kim Cattrall reportedly felt a bit excluded from the circle. The rumors, however, gained more attention at the 2004 Emmys when these two co-stars sat apart.

But until then, neither of them confirmed the feud rumor to be true and instead said they were professionals. The two were even seen reuniting in the ‘Sex and the City’ movies in 2008 and 2010, keeping their personal tensions aside.

The Canceled ‘Sex And the City’ Movie Made Their Feud Public

In 2017, the so-called feud escalated to a whole different level when the plans for a third ‘Sex and the City’ movie, ‘And Just Like That,’ fell apart. According to reports, the main reason behind the movie’s failure was Kim Cattrall’s additional demands. However, she never accepted the allegations and just brushed them off as simply not wanting to return to the franchise.

Even then, she didn’t openly talk about her and Sarah Jessica Parker’s feud. On Piers Morgan’s show, she opened up, saying, “We’ve never been friends; we’ve been colleagues”. But that facade soon fell apart in 2018.

In February 2018, Kim Cattrall lost her brother, and Sarah Jessica Parker went public to offer condolences. But soon, Cattrall retaliated with an angry Instagram message. She wrote, “You are not my family. You are not my friend”. This was the final pin on the coffin of the so-called friendship between the duo.
