Liam Neeson's new "action-packed" thriller has been quietly added to Prime Video

A thriller hailed as "action-packed" is streaming now on Prime Video. The Mongoose stars Liam Neeson as war hero Ryan 'Fang' Flanagan, accused of a crime he didn't commit, who leads police on an epic televised car chase across Texas.

Helped by members of his former United States Army Special Forces unit, he tears across the state while the public cheers him on.

The cast also includes Marisa Tomei, Ving Rhames, and Michael Chiklis, and it was directed by Mark Vanselow.

Vanselow has been Neeson’s stunt double and second unit director on more than 20 films, including all the Taken movies.

The Mongoose was released in theatres in the US, but never came to cinemas in the UK, meaning its streaming release is the first chance audiences here will have to see it.

Speaking ahead of the film's initial release, Goldwyn president Peter Goldwyn and CEO Ben Feingold commented: "The Mongoose is exactly the kind of crowd-pleasing thriller that audiences want to experience on the big screen.

"Mark Vanselow brings an authenticity to the action that only someone who has spent decades alongside Liam could deliver, and with Marisa Tomei, Ving Rhames and Michael Chiklis rounding out the cast, we couldn’t be more excited to bring this film to US audiences this year."

Code’s Al Corley and Bart Rosenblatt added: "Samuel Goldwyn Films is a terrific partner for The Mongoose and we look forward to audiences seeing this action-packed film."

Speaking to Behind The Lens Online, Vanselow explains how he addressed the film's more emotional moments, focusing on the effects of war on mental health.

"I think it’s critical. I have relatives that have served. My nephews serve, my father, my grandfather, kind of thing," he said.

"I’ve had the luxury to be able to work with a lot of people that come to the stunt world from the military. What we want to do is talk about the action component and how we get people in the seats, and then let that be revealed for the audience.

"Because I think that’s the special sauce, that you’re surprised when you see it. I think that’s the takeaway of the layers of what we’re trying to get to in this film."
