NFF Congratulates Iwobi On Premier League Milestone

Translate

The Nigeria Football Federation , NFF, has congratulated Super Eagles midfielder Alexander Iwobi on reaching a significant milestone in the English Premier League, becoming the joint-second most-capped African player in the competition alongside Egyptian star Mohamed Salah.

Iwobi, who earned his 100th international cap for Nigeria during a friendly against Portugal this summer at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria, has now made 328 appearances in the Premier League.

The NFF’s Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, MON, praised the 30-year-old for his achievement and expressed optimism that he would go on to set a new record.

“The NFF celebrates Alex Iwobi for this new achievement, and we wish him even greater glory. We will be very happy to see him become the African with the most appearances in the Premier League in the near future,” Ikpeme said.

Iwobi reached the milestone while featuring for Fulham in their 1-0 victory over Coventry City on Saturday.

The appearance took his Premier League tally to 328, drawing him level with Salah and leaving him just 25 matches short of the record held by former Ivory Coast international Kolo Touré, who made 353 appearances in the competition.

Touré remains the African player with the most Premier League appearances in the league’s history, having featured for several English clubs during his career.

Iwobi also delivered an impressive performance against Coventry City, recording 60 touches, completing 51 passes and achieving a passing accuracy of 86.3 per cent during his 73 minutes on the pitch.

The midfielder, who has won one silver and two bronze medals with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, continues to strengthen his place among Africa’s most prominent performers in English football as he closes in on another historic milestone.
