Today marks the launch of Marvel's Wolverine, an action-adventure game from Insomniac Games which, as you can probably guess, centers around the exploits of the Marvel Comics character Wolverine.

From the creators of Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Wolverine launches today, 15 September, for the PlayStation 5 and serves as a standalone entry in Insomniac's Marvel franchise. Whilst it "shares continuity" with other entries, it can be played as a solo experience, with the story following James "Logan" Howlett, an amnesiac mutant who joins his former team in order to investigate a series of mutant abductions, all whilst coming to terms with his shrouded past.

Officially announced back in 2021, Marvel's Wolverine has been a long time coming, and here at Screen Rant, we awarded it a 7/10 in our review.

"It may be unfair, but it's impossible to play Marvel's Wolverine without comparing it to Insomniac's previous Spider-Man games," our review reads. "There's nothing as pleasantly surprising here as in the first Marvel's Spider-Man game, and while Marvel's Wolverine still has an emotional edge, the gameplay and storytelling can't really get out of Peter Parker's shadow. Too many parts feel like a game I've already played before.

"Marvel's Wolverine is a fine game. Good, even. However, given Insomniac's pedigree, I was expecting something a bit closer to greatness, which ultimately made this outing with Logan a bit of a disappointment. I'm cautiously optimistic about Wolverine's future in Insomniac's Marvel universe, even if this is an admirable - but flawed - first offering."

However, if you want to make up your own mind about Marvel's Wolverine, you should know that you can now get your hands on a stunning update in order to celebrate the game's launch.

Courtesy of Sony Interactive Entertainment, and to celebrate the fact that Marvel's Wolverine will be a PlayStation exclusive, a recent update updated the PS App from its standard PlayStation blue to a more recognizable Wolverine-themed one.

So, if you have the PS App on your phone, you may have noticed that it looks slightly different, and is now a lot more yellow than before. If you cannot see it, you may need to update your app. As this change is only expected to last a few weeks, it is worth taking advantage of it now.

As you may have already noticed, this is not the norm for Sony, who only celebrate some of gaming's biggest launches with a PS App change. We can definitely expect it to happen with the arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI later this year, but it remains to be seen which other upcoming releases will be awarded the same treatment. For now, Marvel's Wolverine goes live today for the PlayStation 5.
