A 19-year old student who was going home from school was killed after his motorcycle collided with a tricycle in Mangaldan, Pangasinan.

In her report on Wednesday, Jasmine Gabriel Galvan of GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon, CCTV footage of the Barangay Guiguilonen portion of the national highway showed the driver of the tricycle signalling he was making a left turn.

The tricycle had just crossed the center of the highway when the student attempted to overtake, resulting in the collision.

Due to the strength of the impact, both occupants of the motorcycle were thrown several feet while the tricycle turned over.

The motorcycle’s back rider and tricycle’s driver and passenger were both injured.

“Actually yung tricycle ay nag-signal na mag-turn left kaya lang hindi niya hinintay agad na sa likod niya ay may parating kaya na-sideswipe niya itong parating na motorcycle,” said Police Col. Perlite Tuayon, chief of the Mangaldan Police Station.

(The tricycle signalled it was turning left but its driver did not wait for the vehicle coming from behind so he sideswiped the incoming motorcycle.)

The student’s family had trouble accepting his fate.

“Mas mabuti na yung ama ‘yung nandiyan kaysa anak. Grabe, parang isang iglap lang nawala,” said the victim’s father, Richard Biagtan.

(It would have been better if it happened to the father and not the son. In an instant he was gone.)

Police said the drivers of both vehicles have no license to drive.

A complaint has been filed against the tricycle driver. Efforts are being made to get his side of the accident.

He told police he did not know there was a trailing vehicle behind his. —RF, GMA News
