Most-played games range from Clair Obscur to Civ to Elden Ring to Halo 2 and beyond.

Star Trek's 60th anniversary has so far been quite remarkable, with plenty for fans to celebrate, including several collectible anniversary releases and major announcements for projects in the coming months. The franchise has already expanded with the somewhat divisive Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's release at the beginning of the year, while Strange New Worlds is continuing with its fourth season now and an eventual fifth and final season coming soon.

The celebrations have stretched beyond television as well, as Star Trek received its first-ever LEGO collaboration, while a dedicated Magic: The Gathering set arrives November 13 in the popular Universes Beyond, bringing characters and moments from across the franchise's six-decade history to the tabletop. Fans are also getting new canon WEBTOON stories, books, collectibles, and special events as well, making it a truly packed year.

Things will culminate around Star Trek Day on September 8, with worldwide celebrations and theatrical screenings of newly restored classic films helping commemorate 60 years since The Original Series first premiered in 1966. And perhaps one of the most exciting releases comes on October 20, a day that Star Trek fans will not want to skip.

Star Trek Gets Major New Release This Fall

While there are several upcoming Star Trek video games on the way, one of the most exciting by far is the launch of Outposts Unknown on October 20. It's an upcoming narrative-driven strategy and colony-building game from developer Magic Fuel Games and publisher Playstack, launching for PC and Mac this Fall.

Billed as the first dedicated outpost builder set in the Star Trek universe, the game tasks players with constructing research facilities, managing resources, developing technology, and assigning crew members to different jobs across the mysterious X’Lehari System.

The story takes place during the 23rd century, alongside the era depicted in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and follows an entirely original adventure centered on aiding a fragile civilization threatened by a mysterious cosmic force. Players will explore unfamiliar environments, encounter new characters, use recognizable Star Trek technologies, and manage their crew through dangerous situations that can test both their abilities and morale.

With branching technology and building options as well as multiple narrative choices, Outposts Unknown looks to combine classic Star Trek exploration with space-sim strategy gameplay.

Star Trek: Outposts Unknown Is A New Frontier

Star Trek: Outposts Unknown is a refreshing new direction for the franchise in gaming, moving away from the space combat, action-adventure experiences that have traditionally dominated Star Trek titles. It's a nice shift in genre, and not the only one either, with the horror-survival-driven game Star Trek: Shadow Frontier on the docket as well, which will bring back fan-favorite The Next Generation star Michelle Forbes reprising her role as Ro Laren.

All told, Star Trek is entering an exciting new era in gaming, with a lot to look forward to for the franchise's 60th anniversary and beyond.
