#NSTviral: Storm leaves Klang Valley roads clogged, hawker stalls wrecked

KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists faced heavy rain, fallen trees and severe traffic congestion across parts of the Klang Valley yesterday, with several roads blocked by fallen trees.

Photos and videos shared on Threads showed road users stranded as branches and tree trunks blocked lanes along the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) near Jalan Duta-Bukit Lanjan and in Damansara Damai.

One user, ayranajihabtmuhdherry, said traffic had been reduced to a single lane.

"The traffic is terrible, with only one lane passable. The rain wasn't even heavy earlier," the user wrote.

Meanwhile, a takoyaki seller in Damansara Damai apologised to customers after cancelling orders due to the weather.

"I'm sorry to all Empire Tako customers. I had to cancel the orders. The weather is really bad today. Please pray that we can resume business," the seller wrote.

Banana fritter seller hafiezrin also said he was forced to close his stall for two days after it and nearby hawker tents were damaged.

"Wak Goreng Pisang is closed for two days (Saturday and Sunday), residents of Damansara Damai. See you on Monday," he wrote.

His post drew encouragement from other users, with one writing: "Come back stronger. We'll buy your banana fritters later."

Amid the disruption, motorists and motorcyclists also joined forces to clear fallen trees and reopen blocked lanes.

User _shanuvath said four northbound lanes from Duta had been reduced to one after a large tree fell across the highway, causing traffic to back up to the Sungai Buloh Hospital exit.

"Salute to Malaysians, especially the riders who immediately stopped to help move the tree," the user wrote.

Another user, mohdazhar.anuar, thanked those who helped clear fallen trees along the North-South Expressway northbound route between Jalan Duta and Bukit Lanjan.

"Thank you to the Malaysian heroes who worked together to cut, move and clear the fallen trees and clear the traffic for other road users," the user wrote.

In Klang Sentral, a motorist was also assisted by a passer-by after his car became stranded in rising water on the road.
