Danantara mandates local partnerships for foreign waste-to-energy tech

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Danantara Investment Management Agency has required foreign technology providers looking to participate in waste-to-energy projects to collaborate with domestic companies.
Danantara Chief Executive Officer Rosan Roeslani stated that the agency does not intend to sideline the private sector, seeking instead to strengthen national enterprises through strategic partnerships.
"We could certainly work directly with foreign companies that provide the technology, but we do not, we mandate that they also partner with local firms," Roeslani said during the 2026 National Leadership Meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in Jakarta on Thursday.
These mandatory joint ventures aim to facilitate technology and knowledge transfer while boosting the capacity of national businesses at both central and regional levels.
He emphasized that Danantara's presence is not intended to replace the private sector, but to foster economic growth alongside commercial enterprises and expand opportunities for domestic companies.
Roeslani acknowledged that continuous efforts are needed to maintain a transparent investment climate.
Internally, Danantara remains focused on optimizing assets, increasing productivity, and improving efficiency across state-owned enterprises under its portfolio.
He added that Danantara will continue its ongoing consolidation and expand private sector involvement in the coming years.
He also invited Kadin and business associations to play a larger role in strengthening collaboration between the government, Danantara, and the private sector.
The agency’s localization mandate comes as Danantara moves forward with major municipal waste infrastructure.
Previous announcements revealed key international partnerships for waste-to-energy facilities, including agreements with China-based Wangneng Environment Co. Ltd. for a project in Bekasi and Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection Co. Ltd. for a facility in Denpasar.
