Pavel Zacha did it to the Penguins again. Thursday night at PPG Paints Arena, the Boston Bruins dismantled Pittsburgh 6-2, with Zacha delivering two goals to push his team to a third consecutive win. The Czech forward has now turned matchups against the Penguins into something of a personal showcase. Boston fell behind early, but Zacha's response in the first period set the tone. When the Penguins tried to claw back in the second, he answered again. Pittsburgh simply has no answer for him.

Zacha Keeps Finding Pittsburgh's Weak Spots

Justin Brazeau gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead at 9:04 of the first period. It did not last long. David Pastrnak picked up a loose puck in the offensive zone, slid it past a diving Pittsburgh defender, and found Zacha camped in front of the crease. Zacha drove it home at 12:07, with JJ Peterka picking up the secondary assist. It was the kind of goal that required instinct over design, and Zacha had both.

Boston pushed the lead to 3-1 by the end of the first period. Nick Robertson pulled one back for Pittsburgh early in the second, cutting the gap to a single goal. Then came Zacha again, at 14:24. This time, Boston caught Pittsburgh transitioning poorly, triggering a lightning-fast 2-on-1 rush. Pastrnak and Peterka quickly moved the puck ahead to Zacha, who broke loose and fired the puck into the net before the goalie could react.

It was his second brace of the season against Pittsburgh, following the hat trick he scored in a 5-4 road loss on March 8, 2026. That game, Boston lost but Zacha was the best player on the ice. Thursday night, Zacha and the Bruins made sure there was no such difference between individual excellence and team result. He walked away as the game's first star.

What Zacha's Form Means for Boston's Season

Zacha closed last season with 30 goals and 65 points, a career-best haul. Through 17 games of this campaign, he has five goals and 12 points, which projects to roughly 24 goals and 58 points over a full year. Those numbers sit just below his previous peak. But the last five games tell a sharper story: three goals and six points in that stretch, a pace that pushes the projections higher.

What makes Zacha particularly valuable is not just the production but the timing. He scores when the game is contested, not when it is already decided. Both goals on Thursday came when Boston needed a reply or needed to separate from Pittsburgh. That is a different quality than a player who pads numbers in dead rubber situations.

The Bruins and Penguins will not meet again until March, when they play twice within five days on March 6 and March 11. Pittsburgh has four months to figure out how to stop Zacha. Based on what has happened over the past two meetings, they have not come close to solving him yet. If that form continues into the spring, Boston will have more than just a hot hand. They will have a consistent problem for a team they need to beat.
