LUCENA CITY – A 47-year-old fisherman who had been missing after his boat was found burning in the waters off Calatagan, Batangas, on Sept.13 was found dead on Thursday morning.

The body of Celideño Hernandez, a resident of Barangay Tanagan, was recovered at around 11 a.m. in waters near the area where his fishing boat was found burning, the Calatagan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported. 

CDRRMO did not provide details as to the condition of the body when it was recovered.

Hernandez’ fishing boat was found ablaze in the waters off Barangay Bagong Silang.

Local fishermen spotted the burning boat with no one aboard about 500 meters southwest of the Cafe Santiago lighthouse.

According to Hernandez’s family, he left home at around 6 a.m. that day to go fishing.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) immediately launched search-and-rescue operations to locate the missing fisherman./coa
