SINGAPORE, Oct 10 — Two men, aged 35 and 39, were yesterday arrested for alleged criminal trespass after they allegedly entered the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix (SGP) event area without valid tickets.
Police said in a statement this morning that they received a report that a man had been detained by SGP staff within the event area along Temasek Boulevard at about 3pm yesterday.
Preliminary investigations later showed that two men — who are acquainted — had attempted to enter the event area along Temasek Avenue at about 1.45pm without valid tickets.
The 35-year-old man was denied entry at the entrance after his ticket was found to be invalid, while the 39-year-old man managed to enter the event area despite holding an invalid ticket.
He is said to have subsequently gained unauthorised access to a restricted area meant for SGP staff and performing artistes.
Staff members later located the man and detained him within the event area. He was handed over to the police and arrested at the scene.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old man was subsequently arrested by the police along Temasek Boulevard.
The 39-year-old man will be charged in court today with criminal trespass, an offence which carries a fine of up to S$1,500 (RM4,785), jail of up to three months, or both.
Investigations into the 35-year-old man are still ongoing.
The police said they take a serious view of unauthorised entry into restricted areas at major events, as such acts may compromise the safety and security of the event.
“Members of the public should comply with all access control measures by event organisers and only enter areas for which they have valid authorisation.
“Offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law,” they added. — AsiaOne
