CALASIAO, Pangasinan — Authorities launched a search on Saturday, Sept. 12, for three people who went missing after a motorboat carrying 13 passengers sank in the Camaley-Balogo River in Binmaley town.

According to a police report, the motorboat had just started cruising along the river when water suddenly entered the vessel, causing the passengers to panic and jump into the water.

Ten passengers, including the boat operator, were rescued, while three others were swept away by the strong current and remained missing as of Saturday.

Personnel from the Binmaley police, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and local civilian divers conducted joint search, rescue, and retrieval operations to locate the missing passengers.

The missing passengers were identified as Renan Aquino, of legal age, a resident of Buntong Palay, Marikina City; Sheryl Castro Soriano Salayog; and Rian Soriano, 24, both residents of Barangay Camaley, Binmaley.

Those rescued were boat operator Mark Joseph Maslog Melendez, 28; Charles Castro Soriano, 31; Jennilyn Tocayon Salvador, 28; Vincent Soriano Salayog, 20; Ronaldo Solis Salayog, 46; Jaymark Jusgaya Villamil, 18; Jerico Soriano Ramirez, 25; and Freddie Castro Soriano, 37, all residents of Barangay Camaley.

Also rescued were Lawrence Melendez Nisperos, 28, and Gabriel Corichi Viduya, 11, both residents of Barangay Madayegdeg, San Fernando City, La Union. /mcm
