Will Howie Roseman Trade Philadelphia Eagles Stars Or Fight For A Playoff Spot Without Jalen Hurts?

Two weeks. That is how long Howie Roseman has before the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 10, and nothing about his timing is kind. The Philadelphia Eagles lost four straight, fell to 2-4, and learned that quarterback Jalen Hurts has deep vein thrombosis and clots in both lungs. He is done for the year, though doctors expect a full recovery. The Dallas Cowboys visit Monday night, also 2-4. Roseman could sell veterans for picks, or he could trust a soft division and keep swinging. Most of the evidence still points to the second path here.
Why Howie Roseman Is Unlikely To Gut The Philadelphia Eagles Before November 10
Saquon Barkley, Zack Baun, Riq Woolen, Landon Dickerson, Dallas Goedert and Moro Ojomo all show up in deadline chatter. Fans want a fire sale. Roseman rarely delivers one.
He values a third-round pick the same in any year. A veteran who walks in free agency can also return a compensatory pick, so a trade has to beat that number. Ojomo projects as a third-rounder that way. Few teams will pay more for half a season.
Jalen Hurts' own camp is defending Howie Roseman. Per ESPN: Hurts saw a specialist in Boston the Friday before IR, and his side says Howie was "worried about Jalen's health more than anything else." So much for the "Eagles endangered him" narrative. https://t.co/ctYJsLmeXf

Then look at the calendar. Before the deadline, Philadelphia meets Dallas, the Washington Commanders and the New York Giants, who are a combined 6-10-1. Win two and the Eagles stand at 4-5, close enough to the NFC East lead that selling starters would look silly.
Tanner McKee Inherits An Offense That Needs More Than A New Quarterback
McKee has earned a real look. He throws a touchdown every 22 attempts and an interception every 133. Hurts also keeps in touch. "I talk to him very frequently," McKee said.
The bigger worry sits around him. Sean Mannion's unit averages 17.6 points and 256 yards a game, the thinnest six-game start since 2012. Barkley, though, gains 6.3 yards a carry before halftime and only 2.9 after it. That split blames the second-half script and the blocking more than his legs. Dickerson and Drew Kendall are due back, and the line needs them badly.
If the injured starters return and the offense still stalls, head coach Nick Sirianni may have to give the play calling to someone else. He avoided that move last year. Monday night will not settle any of it, but it will show how much patience this season can afford.
