Sifuna to Ruto: Stop the name-calling, answer the questions

Linda Mwananchi leader Edwin Sifuna has sustained his attacks against President William Ruto, asking him to stop directing his anger at the opposition for demanding accountability from his administration.
Accompanied by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and other opposition leaders during the burial of former police boss Lazarus Opicho at Sirende in Kiminini Constituency, Sifuna said the opposition would continue to demand answers over what he described as failures in the President’s administration and poor leadership that had made Kenyans suffer.
“Stop directing your anger at us, stop calling us names. What we want as the opposition is for you to answer the questions and issues we are raising, including the high cost of living and mismanagement of public funds by your government,” said Mr Sifuna.
The opposition leaders censured President Ruto over the housing project, saying the scheme would not resolve the country’s growing slum problem despite the heavy taxation imposed on Kenyans to fund it.

“I want you to tell me, President Ruto, since you started this project, which slums have closed in the country? Kibera and other slums are still there, and Kenyans are suffering. Your affordable housing project is just a slum to siphon money from Kenyans,” said Mr Sifuna.
He promised that, if elected President in the 2027 General Election, he would turn to affordable housing projects to address housing problems facing police officers in the country.
He accused President Ruto of misusing the security organs’ hierarchy to intimidate and harass the opposition, saying a Linda Mwananchi administration would implement police reforms if voted into power.
“We want our people to live in harmony without any fear. Currently, the President does not respect the police or the Constitution, and that is why the security of opposition leaders is being withdrawn without explanation,” said Mr Sifuna.
He blamed the Kenya Kwanza administration for the chaos witnessed yesterday during the first anniversary of the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Migwena grounds in Bondo, Siaya County.
“As Baba’s sons, we are still pushing for liberation despite the State-sponsored chaos during his first anniversary. It is very shameful for the government,” said Mr Sifuna.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya said the government was persecuting him for supporting Senator Edwin Sifuna in his quest to become the country’s sixth President.
He dismissed claims that he was funding goons in the county and urged the government to produce evidence instead of harassing him.
“If they think I have been sponsoring goons, they should table evidence instead of making flimsy allegations aimed at tarnishing my profile,” he said.
He vowed to lead peaceful demonstrations on Monday to protest the takeover of key county flagship projects by the national government.
“The government has forced some people to take over the Masinde Muliro market and allocate it to foreigners instead of genuine traders. This is unacceptable, and I am ready to sacrifice my life for the sake of my people,” said Mr Natembeya.
He dismissed President William Ruto’s plans to construct a Sh1 billion referral hospital, arguing that the project lacked goodwill and public participation.

“What I know is that there is no land set aside for the project. It is a political showdown intended to hoodwink the electorate. This is a very wrong move by the government,” added Mr Natembeya.
Mr Natembeya’s security was withdrawn on Wednesday night after President Ruto toured the county, in what the governor has claimed is a political scheme to punish and silence him.
