Multinational troops hone patrol skills at 2026 Super Garuda Shield

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI), alongside soldiers from the U.S. Army and the Australian Defence Force, bolstered their patrol capabilities during the 2026 Super Garuda Shield (SGS) exercise.

In a press release issued here on Thursday (September 3), the TNI stated that the drill was designed to enhance soldiers' proficiency in territorial surveillance and battlefield survival tactics.

Held at the Army Combat Training Center in Martapura, South Sumatra, Indonesia, the training began with comprehensive theoretical briefings before troops executed practical field exercises.

During the field drills, soldiers were required to demonstrate advanced navigation skills, keen terrain observation, and tactical patrol maneuvers vital for conducting reconnaissance and surviving potential enemy ambushes.

"Training in actual terrain provides valuable experience for soldiers to hone their physical and mental endurance, decision-making capabilities, as well as to improve discipline and teamwork," the TNI noted.

The drills concluded smoothly and safely. Through this training, the Indonesian military expects its personnel to be better prepared for future deployments, particularly border patrol missions and operations in high-risk areas.

"This exercise is also expected to strengthen interoperability, communication, and military cooperation among participating nations, fostering a more solid collaborative capability to face future challenges," the statement added.

The 2026 Super Garuda Shield is a major multilateral military exercise involving 4,743 personnel from 21 countries. The exercises are being held across multiple Indonesian locations, including Jakarta, Lampung, Bandung in West Java, Baturaja in South Sumatra, and Nunukan in North Kalimantan.

Participating nations include host Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
