London e-bike crash tragedy as boy, 17, killed and police arrest car driver

A 17-year-old boy has died after the e-bike he was riding was in collision with a car in north London.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the crash in Enfield on Sunday night.

Officers attended the scene in Elsinge Road at 10.56pm, along with London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance.

The rider of the e-bike, a boy aged 17, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin are being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver of the car, a 60-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Met Police said he remained in custody.

Detective Inspector Simon Ager said: “Our thoughts remain with the boy’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this tragic loss.

“We are working at pace to establish the full circumstances around the collision, and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Any piece of information you have could be crucial in our investigation.

“I am asking anyone who was in the area at the time, or may have captured CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to contact police as soon as possible.”
