Terry Bradshaw Sends A Clear Message To FOX As Questions Grow Over His NFL Sunday Future

Terry Bradshaw has a plan for his exit from television, and it involves saying nothing at all. The Pittsburgh Steelers legend, 78, just signed a two-year extension with FOX, yet he already expects the network to hand his chair to someone younger. He refuses to make that call for them. No farewell speech, no tearful montage, no victory lap. Speaking to Men's Health about his new memoir Looking for Terry, the Hall of Famer made his stance clear. If FOX wants a new face on FOX NFL Sunday, the network needs to say so first.

Terry Bradshaw Contract Extension Runs Through The 2029 Super Bowl

The new deal keeps Bradshaw at FOX through the network's next Super Bowl broadcast in February 2029. He will be 80 by then. He told Men's Health:

"I think I'm going through now what everybody that's in their 70s goes through. I'm 78. I just signed a two-year extension, and I'm pretty sure no matter how well I perform over the next two years, they're going to want to replace me."

The honesty fits his track record. Bradshaw first teased retirement in 2008 and has stayed 15 more years. Charles Barkley keeps announcing his exit without leaving. Bradshaw flips the script. He explained:

"I'm not going to announce my retirement, because in two years when we do the Super Bowl, after my contract is expiring, I don't want anybody to do a tribute. So I'm never going to say I'm going to retire. Because, look, they may say, 'Hey, you're still doing a good job. We'll sign you for another year.' That could easily happen. They're pissing into the wind if they think I'm gonna tell them I'm retiring."

Why Terry Bradshaw Fears Losing His FOX NFL Sunday Seat

Work means more to Bradshaw than a weekly paycheck. He has spoken openly about clinical depression, and his wife, Tammy, gave it the nickname "Roy" so they can talk about it without fear. He has also said losing his FOX seat scares him more than leaving the spotlight. That context explains the stubborn stance.

He has anchored FOX's NFL pregame show since the network landed the league in 1994. Younger voices will come, and he knows it. Still, he has a punchline ready for the day FOX moves on. He told Men's Health:

"I mean, I'm not going anywhere either. What am I going to do, at 80? Go to ESPN?"

Whether another extension arrives is FOX's call. Bradshaw has simply made sure the network has to own that decision.
