‘The Batman Part II’ Production Paused as Filmmaker Matt Reeves Steps Away for “Family Matter”
The Batman: Part II is on pause while filmmaker Matt Reeves deals with a personal matter, sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” said a DC Studios spokesperson in a statement provided to Deadline, which broke the news. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
The Batman Part II began filming in June in London after a winding development process that saw its start date pushed multiple times while Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin developed the script. The film currently has a release date of Feb. 18, 2028.
Robert Pattinson stars in the feature as Bruce Wayne/Batman, with new additions to the franchise including Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan.
Reeves is behind 2022’s The Batman, which grossed 770.3 million globally, and launched the spinoff TV series The Penguin starring Colin Farrell. The filmmaker is also behind DC’s upcoming Clayface movie, centering on the Batman villain, as a producer.
The move comes as Skydance will complete its takeover of DC Studios home Warner Bros. on Tuesday. DC chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran are among the executives making the jump to the new ownership, and will stay on, while Warner Bros. film bosses Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy are among those leaving.
