TASEK GELUGOR, Oct 22 — A 10-month-old baby boy who died while under the care of a babysitter at her home in Tasek Gelugor, near here, on Monday was confirmed to have suffered head injuries due to blunt force trauma based on autopsy results.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman said that the doctor who conducted the post-mortem confirmed that the injuries could be fatal.

“Medical examination found that the victim died due to head injuries consistent with blunt force trauma, but the doctor could not determine whether the injuries were caused by an accident or by another person’s actions, nor how many times the impact occurred,” he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday.

In this regard, he said the 25-year-old babysitter has been remanded for seven days starting Tuesday to assist in the investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

Anuar said the investigation is still ongoing and the police are completing the investigation papers before referring them to the state prosecution director for further action.

Earlier, the baby’s mother, Sharifatul Hafizah Sahul Hamid, 34, reported that the post-mortem on her youngest child, Muhammad Faris Syazwan Muhammad Zulkarnain, confirmed that he had died due to severe head injuries and brain haemorrhage.

Sharifatul Hafizah was reported to have said that her son’s remains were buried at the Neting Muslim Cemetery in Kelantan earlier this morning. — Bernama
