Ruben Amorim appears to have shifted his stance on Milan’s transfer activity, acknowledging that some of the club’s new signings may not suit his system, just days after praising the Rossoneri’s summer additions.

Milan coach Amorim has come under scrutiny in Italy not only because the Rossoneri are winless in the last three games across all competitions, but also because of some of his recent comments to the media.

Milan suffered their first 2026-27 defeat on Wednesday, losing 2-0 at home to Benfica in the Europa League opener.

Even before the game, Amorim admitted in an interview with Sky Sports that only part of the team suits his style of play. “I don’t have the clear characteristics that are perfect at this moment, but it is impossible when you take on a new team to have those perfect characteristics right away,” he added.

Those claims, however, clashed with his recent comments on Milan’s transfer activity, as just before the Juve match, Amorim rated the Rossoneri’s Mercato “10/10.”

Gazzetta notes that Amorim had a big impact on Milan’s transfer activity, with owner Gerry Cardinale trying to match the coach’s demands for new signings and departures.

Amorim has signed a three-year contract with an option for an additional year. Although he has just begun this long-term project, he understands that managing clubs like Milan and Manchester United comes with the expectation of achieving consistent victories.

“I know it will take time, but I also know that there is big pressure at this club, yet I prefer this kind of job because if I need to fail one day, I want to fail big,” he said on Wednesday,

“I have a lot of passion for this club. I want to help this club to be better. I don’t know if I will have the time, but I look at my players, and I think they are listening to everything that I say, and that gives me hope we can solve these problems.”

Milan are winless in the last three games across all competitions.

According to MilanNews, Amorim will meet with owner Cardinale today to discuss the team’s current situation and the issues facing it as the Rossoneri prepare to host Lecce at San Siro next Sunday, the final match before the international break.
