ELECTRICITY RESTORED IN JOHANNESBURG AREA

Following a community outcry at an Imbizo in Pennyville, City Power Johannesburg cracked down on illegal connections in the area.  This comes after community members from Pennyville complained of ongoing electricity challenges in the area during an Imbizo, the power utility took the step forward.

Upon investigating the cause of the challenges, the team established that the transformer had been overloaded. According to the statement by the power utility, illegal electricity connections were one of the contributing factors.

“These illegal connections place significant additional pressure on the electricity network because electricity is consumed outside the designed capacity of the infrastructure. This can result in transformers becoming overloaded and eventually burning out, causing extended outages that affect the broader community,” read the statement.
